The environment
Improving the environment and promoting sustainable development are increasingly important issues facing the business community. RAD takes its environmental responsibilities extremely seriously.Despite the huge technological advances being made in the automotive industry, RAD is all too aware of how driving habits (including those of executive chauffeurs) affect fuel consumption. Enhanced awareness and attention are key factors. To demonstrate our commitment to the environment, we ensure that all our chauffeurs are accredited under the Dutch eco-driving programme “Het Nieuwe Rijden”. This means that they have successfully concluded “Het Nieuwe Rijden” course. They undergo rigorous training, which consists of a theoretical component and an open-road practical driving component. Participants are made more aware of the consequences of their driving behaviour, and master practical skills to reduce fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and improve road safety. The “Nieuwe Rijden” training is conducted under the auspices of the TÜV, a globally recognized testing, inspection, and certification organization.
The “Nieuwe Rijden” training fulfils the requirements of the Kyoto protocol and the corresponding Climate Policy Implementation Memorandum [Dutch: Uitvoeringsnota Klimaatbeleid]. Under the Kyoto protocol, the Netherlands undertakes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 6% below 1990 levels over the 2008-2012 commitment period.
